July 2018 Haughley Residents View Plans For Proposed Development

Over 130 local residents turned out to speak to the Catesby Estates team about their proposed plans for delivering new homes in Haughley.

Local stakeholders were invited along to the Village Hall on Friday 28th June 2018, to view the plans and offer their feedback for proposals on land south of Fishponds Way, Haughley.

Feedback included the recognised need for affordable housing and pedestrian footpaths, as well as valuable insight into what local residents thought on the layout of the proposed development and their ideas for improvements to landscaping and access.

We will be using the feedback received to shape the final plans before submitting our outline planning application to Mid Suffolk District Council later this year, after which the Council will then determine the application.

March 2019 Unanimous Support At Planning Committee For New Homes In Haughley

Catesby Estates is pleased to announce Mid Suffolk District Council has resolved to grant outline planning permission for 65 new homes on an 11.6 acre site, west of Fishponds Way in Haughley.

The site will deliver 35% affordable housing, along with new public open space including a community garden and allotments.

Part of the site had been allocated for housing in the emerging Neighbourhood Plan.  Catesby Estates worked closely with the Parish Council, Neighbourhood Plan Group and Ward Councillor to deliver a scheme that was sensitively designed and in keeping with the village character.

The application proposed a range of community benefits including, traffic calming measures on Fishponds Way and a bridge over the River Gipping to help deliver the long desired continuous pedestrian and cycle link between the village and Stowmarket.

As a result of the extensive consultation approach, the scheme was supported by the Parish Council.  With members of the Planning Committee following the Planning Officer’s advice and unanimously voting to approve the application.

Ed Barrett, Senior Planning Manager for Catesby Estates said; “By working closely with local stakeholders during the consultation process we were able to identify issues affecting local residents.  We designed our scheme accordingly to provide a range of additional community benefits alongside the new homes.”

“We recognised the need for smaller properties in the area including bungalows, and adapted our housing mix which will help more families and young people to remain within or move into the village, as well as offering opportunities for those downsizing.”

Catesby Estates will now be working in partnership with a housebuilder for the delivery of the new homes, with first residents expected to take occupation early 2021.
