Housebuilding Target Adrift By Almost A Decade

Further delays from Covid are set to compound the existing housing shortfall, with the government missing its housebuilding target by almost a decade after failing to invest in social housing.

Boris Johnson had promised to increase housebuilding to 300,000 a year by the mid-2020s in a bid to tackle the housing crisis.

But at the rate of increase achieved before the lockdowns, the government will not reach its target until 2032, meaning this is eight years later than planned.
